No, I had not read the books or seen the first two movies. But there is no way to live in America and not know what they are about, and who the Mockingjay is.
So I was excited to go see this movie. And fairly glad I had not seen the previous ones, where kids got killed in The Hunger Games. This one, though, also has a lot of violence and much of the world blowing up.
I liked the lessons on leadership, risktaking, going for it. Though I thought the Mockingjay took way too long to get that together. My friend Diane thought it was understandable, given what she had been through before, and that she was still recovering.
Without having seen that, my thought was that we have to quit teaching girls to value being nice over everything else. And was glad that the president on the Mockingjay’s side finally figured it out. The other president already knew what he wanted to achieve and what he was willing to pay for it.
Nonetheless, a good and entertaining film, with lots of truth in it. The explosions do get a bit boring, though.
