What a movie! Pretty much a recovery from sex addiction film, with the addict as a young and nubile woman. Not soft and cuddly – Amy Schumer, writing and starring in the film that carries the flavor of her TV series, is rapacious and hungry, goes after what she wants sexually and gets it. The guys are pretty much just there to do what she wants, and she is very specific about that. “Stay down there”, she says to one guy, and pushes his head down and under the blankets again.
I loved Amy taking charge. She was totally aghast when one guy has marriage on his mind. Mercifully, she kindly amputates that thought, and doesn’t let him get further entangled. Then, as a staffer at a rapacious and nasty magazine, she meets a young sports doctor she is to interview in a big feature. She doesn’t see it coming, but eventually falls hard, while her father (on whom she has modeled her behavior and life) is dying.
This film isn’t all believable, but most of it is – and good + challenging. Hard to believe in the need for female viagra after watching Amy in action. The dad scenes, cleaning out his house with her sister – and the ridiculous cheerleading scenes. Priceless and precious. And three cheers to the doctor guy who values her above her life story.
Plus three cheers for LeBron in his acting debut. Funny and good.
